hmmm…
26.
A Googol (spelled correctly) is the number 1 followed by 100 zeros. (or 1^100)
Google is a dotcom company.
32.
Human hair and fingernails do NOT grow after death. The skin of a corpse dehydrates, making it only appear that they continue to grow.
These are 2 facts that are documented widely.
There’s a good chance that some of the other 48 “facts” probably aren’t credible.
Do you write your own comments too, or do you employ parrots that can’t spell?
Hallo,
Thank you! I would now go on this blog every day!
Thank you
Gwen
I’m kidding, I probably won’t even return to see if this comment gets a response. Josh is right. I’ve got another one. Ravel is word that is its own antonym. Cleave isn’t the only one.
Josh, somebody so smart should also be smart enough to realize those comments are spam, and that this author needs Akismet.
I don’t believe anybody reads these lists to learn something – this is a cheap form of entertainment. Accept it as that and move along.
The “fact” about the legs of horses in statues (49) is not true, just a widely accepted myth.
Blood cells take closer to a minute to circulate the body. It’s faster if you are exerting yourself but 20 seconds is unlikely.
Quite an interesting list despite a couple being commented on as myths
As for No. 26: “26. Google is actually the common name for a number with a million zeros.”
Well, actually, a “googol,” (10^100) is written out as 1 followed by 100 zeroes. Why do you hate science?
If you’re going to call something a fact you should really cite a supporting source…
Number 9. “Laughing lowers levels of stress hormones and strengthens the immune system. Six-year-olds laugh an average of 300 times a day. Adults only laugh 15 to 100 times a day.” and Number 42. “The average person laughs 13 times a day.” contradict each other.
Usually these lists are a little better edited. But I’m puzzled why adults laugh 15-100 times per day(no. 9) but only average 13(no. 42)…
The value of making the titanic does not account for the present value of what it would cost to build the ship. $7 million in 1917 would be worth substantially more than todays value. Most likely more than the $200 million it took to make the movie
Volney was the name of the first MGM lions trainer. There have been several MGM Lions:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leo_the_Lion_%28MGM%29
32 is false. skin recedes causing the hair and nails to appear to grow.
Entertaining. Not to be a ponce, but entries like 28 should say if they are adjusted for inflation. If those numbers are not, then the values would be 7 million for the ship and about 130 million for the film.
Useful tool: http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl
…which makes it a good statistic for a list like this.
#6 The SOS signal was in use at least three years before the Titanic.
#25 There have been five different lions used for the MGM logo. None of them were named Volney.
I think this list should be 25 interesting facts and some stuff people made up. Many of the errors have been pointed out, except this one: The ‘v’ between litigants does indeed mean ‘versus’ which, of course, means ‘against.’
Hey look at me I know everything I’m gonna go around correcting people in their blogs cuz I have nothing better to do “Durrr number 18 is wrong blue has always pissed me off.. durrrrr” You sheep try and ruin everything I’m glad you only have a few years left
50 Interesting Facts | Beautiful photos and pictures…
Men’s shirts have the buttons on the right, but women’s shirts have the buttons on the left….
I’m right handed and I chew on my left side.
Fascinating stuff.
Well lots of disagreement there. Yes these things should be checked first.
Allot incorrect here. The sound you hear when holding a shell up to your head is not blood, it’s the ambient sound of the environment distorted and filtered by the acoustics of the shell. Test this by holding a shell to your ear noting the level of sound, carry out some vigourose exercise and try again. There will be no difference to the sound level despite allot more blood pumping round your body. If you have a sound proofed room to hand try this again and note the lack of ocean sound effects.
I think the title of this post should be changed to, “50 things I think might be facts but I’m too lazy to verify them so here you go. Morons.”
Actually the right lung is smaller, to make room for that liver. That’s stage right.
The reason for the difference in buttons on shirts is that men always used to dress themselves, and needed the buttons on the right side as they were mostly right-handed. Women had their shirts buttoned for them my servants, however, and so the servants needed the buttons on their own right.
so many of these are myths. do your research first.
Some of these aren’t true, and when some of them aren’t true, it makes all of them suspect.
Sort of defeats the purpose if any doubt is instilled upon us…
I’m also suspicious of #10, the sound we hear is most likely not our blood rushing in our ears, but the echo of nearby sounds or air currents.
also this one:
49. If a statue in the park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle; if the horse has one front leg in the air, the person died as a result of wounds received in battle; if the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural cause.

Uhm, it’s a googol, google is a search engine or something. I guess there’s quite a few other incorrect “facts” in the list. Boo-urns
Actually, the flesh and muscle dehydrates, giving the illusion that hair and nails are growing.
Like most of these lists, this one is a mixture of fact and myth. Also, like most of these lists, there are plenty of people eager to set things right. Unfortunately, many of their answers are also a mixture of fact and myth.
haha, totally agree with you James. The sound of the “ocean” when you put a shell up to your ears IS in fact the blood rushing through the blood vessels in your ears. Why do you think that you can still here the sound if you are in a place nowhere near the ocean? If you can’t here it, then maybe your using a shell that’s not big enough, (doesn’t have a big enough cavity for sound to reverberate). By the way, I’m left-handed and tend to chew on my right side.
“41. Intelligent people have more zinc and copper in their hair.”
How do you define intelligence?
I guess I’ll add my 2 cents.
The three wise monkeys (Japanese: ??, literally “three monkeys”) embody the proverbial principle to “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil”.
The three monkeys are Mizaru (??, miru, to see), covering his eyes, who sees no evil;
Kikazaru (??, kiku, to hear), covering his ears, who hears no evil;
and Iwazaru (??, iu, to speak), covering his mouth, who speaks no evil.
And since someone asked for a citation of fact, you can find this information in the ?? “Chinese Analects” (tJapanese title is ?? “Rongo,” and uses the same Chinese Characters).
Fact 39 is actually incorrect, although often re-printed in many different places.
Go hang yourself in spanish is ‘cuelgate’ although the infinitive is ‘colgar’.
my God, i thought you were going to chip in with some vital insght at the end there, not leave it without an summary.
